Upcoming assignments

We have wrapped up our Data Management unit in Math and students spent time looking at different types of data (primary, secondary, discrete and continuous). They created a survey and went to other classrooms to collect data and compiled a project that included a title page, survey, results table, bar graph, line graph and conclusion paragraph.

This project was due today and a few students still have to finish up for homework this weekend.

We are also working on paragraph writing and this is an area, as a class, we need to improve on this year. The students are currently working on a paragraph about either their favourite season, or favourite person. These paragraphs are being typed on google docs so students can access them from home to complete. The first copy is due Tuesday morning so we can begin the editing and revising process Tuesday afternoon.
- Thanks for checking in with your child at home to make sure they get completed. Students are always aware of due dates and what is homework, they also know by Grade 5, it's their responsibility (not Mr.Chaputs or Mom,Dad,Grandma, pet dog) to get unfinished work completed and handed in.  :)

Election 2019

In Social Studies we have been working hard and having great conversations in our Government unit. Students have been looking at the rights and responsibilities of Canadian citizens, various types of government, the 3 levels of Government, the importance of voting and how to vote. Recently we have been looking at the various political parties and their platforms on issues that the grade 5 students are affected by. Yesterday we used a youth compass app from Elections Canada. The app asked student appropriate questions and after the 30 questions it showed students where their views lined up with certain political parties. It was a great eye opener for students to see which political party they were closest to when they answered truthfully and we didn't let things like others, fake news, or social media sway our thoughts.

Today, students got to go through a realistic simulation of what a polling station looks like and how the voting process works. Students had to bring their "ID" with them to make sure it matched the names on the voters list and eventually cast their ballot. Students will find out Monday who the majority voted for to be our new Prime Minister.

FORE!!!!

We had a 8:50am tee off time. Today students had some fun playing mini putt. We will be using their scores and using that as our data over the course of the next week. In math we are doing data management and students will be using their scores, as well as their partners to create various types of graphs over the next week.
